SO, Why Belly Dance?

.. be Stronger, Physically and Emotionally

Belly dance has to be one of the BEST workouts for women EVER devised! it's been around for THOUSANDS of years passed down from one generation of women to the next ~ and all for some VERY good reasons - it's for mind, body and soul ...

THE BODY

It's a low impact exercise that packs in a good aerobic workout. It can burns up to 300 calories an hour. Anerobic work means healthier heart and lungs. some moves are unique in that they massage the internal organs improving significantly aiding inner body health. The increased blood flow to you internal organs can help to relieve IBS, PMS, even labour pain! The hallmark shimmy moves (fast twitch muscle action motion) significantly stimulate the lymphatic system (50% after 1 minute), This boosts the immune system.

It's 'Load bearing' Exercise

It strengthens the larger muscles around the body. The supportive ones. Muscles necessary for a healthy life. Belly dance is unique in that it helps to tones up the pelvic floor AND abdominals, and works other muscle groups in synroised movements, this develops smart, flexible strong muscle tone in the hips, shoulders, back, thighs, hips, buttocks, and major postural muscle groups.

It encourages Improved Flexibility

Suppleness and flexibility are increased, particularly in the hips and lumbar region. The muscles work in such a way as to increase flexibility. A good teacher will stretch out all the muscles used to prevent stiffness around the joints, to help their students become even more strong, healthy and flexible. The signature moves teach muscles to be strong and responsive, making belly dance a workout that can give you both strength AND flexibility. This helps you to avoid injuries by lifting and twisting and other daily endeavours.

THE SOUL

It Raises endorphin levels it's Fun and Uplifting to do

We all know by now that getting the heart pumping for a sustained amount of time has an uplifting effect by the release of endorphins. This together with the fun of learning the moves makes the physical work circumstancial.
It's Creative
Students new to the dance soon gain an extra body awareness and walk with more of a spring in their step! It is a journey into yourself, physically, emotionally and spiritually. It allows you to express yourself creatively to beautiful music and timeless rythmns. With time and training you will tap into your own personal musicality and make the dance unique to you - truly your own! It is for any woman regardless of age, size or shape. Daughters, Mothers and Grandmothers all belly dance!

It's Inclusive!

You don't HAVE to bear any part of your body you can be as modest as you wish (or not!).. It is usual for a hip scarf or coin belt to be worn on the hips adding extra visibility to the pelvic movements. The full regalia is saved for parties and performances!<

There are Many FUN Social Opportunities

Belly dancers have a lot of socialising opportunities! - chances to get out and dance with like-minded women in a fun and relaxed setting happens all over the UK!. Meeting with others helps to improve your self-confidence and self image. In my dance school I offer regular social gatherings in addition to classes and a lot of other dance groups do this. You could dance practically every weekend some months! - In addition there are some beautiful and amazing shows taking place for up and coming 'stars' and exisitng 'stars' of the dance. It doesn't end there either, many dance teachers take trips abroad to Turkey, Egypt and Morocco to see the dance being done at source. Many dancers make close and life long friendships.

THE MIND

Fires Up Your Brain and improves recall

They say that belly dancers are smart. This is because the dance requires quick thinking to interpret the music into moves "visual melodies" if you like. The learning of choreography improves dexterity and aids memory recall. Choreography is taught to allow students to understand the moves in context of a whole dance piece and to learn Arabic dance composition. Good teachers, cover different styles and rhythms that belly dancers use (and there are many!).

Dressing up & Performing, feeling fabulous!

Some ladies come to dance for fitness alone, or intrigue. Others like to express their personality and to present their dances in public and this demands a certain amount of dressing up. Costuming styles are abundant and it's a great opportunity to express your individuality. It's lots of fun and raises self-esteem. There are many different costume styles, from dresses, to two pieces and everything in between in every conceivable colour. Every woman, every taste is catered for.

Its popular - we are a big community!

There are over a million searches on the internet for belly dancing every month! It is a worldwide art form and can be found in nearly every country across the globe. Women that take to the dance find it provides them with so much appeal that it becomes a part of their lives for many years. For millions of women around the globe, this dance is their down time! A chance to socialise, network and express themselves.

Come and FEEL great about yourself! No matter what age, size shape, ability or background -
This dance is for ALL WOMEN and for EVERY stage in our lives! Come on and join the party.
